I’ve started this post in February 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic had just started. Since then, a lot has changed from the way we work and interact with one another to the way we go about living our lives, but one thing has not changed yet that is we’re still in the pandemic. Now that winter is here, I’m updating this post to hopefully remind our kids of the simple stuff that can keep them safe and healthy.
I’ve always wanted to create math worksheets for my kids, at least the simple addition and subtraction math problems for them to practice but really didn’t have a chance to work on it. Now that my kids’ schools were shut down due to the coronavirus, and major counties in California (and other states as well) in the U.S. are practicing and enforcing shelter in place policies, we practically can’t go anywhere for the next 3-4 weeks, so I’m feeling a strong need to create the new math worksheets for my kids and to share with you as well.
Hope you find these and other materials useful! Please add comments to let me know how you use them! Best wishes and stay calm and healthy!
Here are some stuff I bought for my two kids. I’m posting them here to kind of keep a list of things that we bought, and I also want to share to you, especially about those items that are worthwhile or recommended. If you have anything that you want share/recommend, please feel free to do it through the comment box at the bottom of the page. Cheers!
I’ve had various posts about learning the alphabet from coloring activities to tracing and handwriting practice sheets. Through observation and playing with my kids, I’ve come to realize that kids can get excited about new things quickly (learning the Alphabet in this case), but that excitement and the initial level of engagement can’t last long unless we can keep introducing some sort of new element to the materials every time. That’s why I’m introducing a series of coloring and handwriting practices for each letter in the alphabet in addition to the existing materials found in this subject, starting with letter A, of course!
For kids, learning is important, and playing is even more important. As a parent of two daughters, I’ve always tried to incorporate and start learning with playing so that my kids would feel excited about learning new things through various joyful educational activities. With the helps and contribution of my two daughters, this website was born.
Hello parents and kids! Welcome to my website Playing Learning! I am a proud mother of two beautiful daughters (Jovia & Jayla – J & J), who have turned our quiet life upside down, in a good way :). I’m not a stay-at-home mom, but rather the one who has tried hard to balance work and family life while putting aside some time for this blog to share the exciting parenting experiences with you.
Hope you find the materials here useful!
Why Playing (and) Learning?
I think with kids, the most important things is to let them explore, to play, and from there they will learn the essential skills. That’s why the name I chose for this site is Playing Learning, but not the way around. Playing really is learning.
While searching (and sometimes struggling to do so) for useful materials to play with my kids, I came to realize that although there are lots of good websites out there, more often the materials are not print-ready – some are blurry, while others are in various sizes/formats, and sometimes with ads on the printout – and not arranged in an order that’s best for my kids. This site is for me to store my collection of things where I compile stuff that I like (and hope you will, too) and also make them from scratch for my kids.
Clean printouts
Here and there on my site, I display ads or extra information about certain topic; however, once you choose to print a coloring page or a worksheet, all the ads and extraneous information will become hidden. You’ll have clean printout for your loved ones! Although this may not be a big deal to some, it’s been really a big deal for me, so creating a clean and printer-friendly sheet is among my top priority with this site.
I need you!
I’m new, very new indeed to blogging and social media, and like most of us those who start a new blog, I want my site to be useful and informative. Since I’ve already spent quite some time setting this up, and since you’ve already spent some time on my site, why not try to make the best of what we can. Please feel free to send your feedback and suggestion my way, either via a comment for each post, or through the Contact info.
And if you find anything interesting or useful, please help spread the words and share it with your friend through the social sharing at the beginning of each post.
