Coming from a different country with a different educational background, what has always amazed me is how early kids are exposed to and start reading books on a regular basis overhere. Starting from kindergarten, almost every week, my daughters bring home new books together with the book report worksheets that they need to finish and turn in the week after.

Book reports help students to read with a purpose in mind: read to understand and not just running through the motion of doing it.
Below are a few book reports that I’ve created with support from my two daughters. Hope you find them useful!
Book report format
Depending on the student’s level and grade, book reports can take different shapes and forms. In general, a book report requires students to report/write about some or all of the follwings: the book title, its author, its illustrator, the main characters, the setting, and the summary. Some book report worksheets, especially the narrative report, also ask students to identify the topic sentence, the beginning, the middle and the ending events of the story, together with the concluding sentence. Some goes so far as asking students to give their opinions whether they like or dislike the book and why, and to rate the book with 1-5 stars.
Thank you for posting these free book report writing sheets! I’ve paid different versions of similar sheets on various sites, but yours are good enough and and very convenient to share with my kids and classes.
